According to the Associated Press, Blanding is the “Safest Community in America” from natural disasters. However, we have much more to offer than just physical safety. Blanding is truly a “Base Camp to Adventure.” We are the hub of the Nation’s largest concentration of National Parks and Monuments – known as the “Golden Circle.” Located near the junction of the Four Corners (Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah), Blanding offers easy access to some of the most spectacular country on the Colorado Plateau.
In a world gone haywire, Blanding offers glimpses back into a bygone era. In our area it is possible to re-connect to the America that was. Our sky is still unblemished by pollutants and our water is drinkable from the tap. Wildlife is varied and abundant and it is possible to find solitude in the midst of a great outdoors still accessible to the public. The individual still matters in Blanding and the world can seem a lot less complicated here.
Blanding is also a progressive community. A new hospital will be completed in 2008. Utah State University and the College of Eastern Utah have a very visible presence in our local San Juan Center. It is possible to earn advanced college degrees without leaving the community. Our citizens have approved special funding for a wellness center to complement our fine athletic fields. Our youth consistently perform well at the state level in athletics, academics and the fine arts. We are also a diverse community living in harmony. Forty percent of our population is American Indian.
One of the challenges for a high-desert alpine community is water. The community has made wise investments to ensure sufficient water. We have five years storage capacity in surface water – all of which are expected to be full in 2008. In addition, the City has successfully located abundant ground water sources that will be incorporated into our infrastructure. A new water treatment plant is also being developed.
Come and enjoy some of the peace and tranquility that prevails. Take the time to explore our canyons and vistas and feel the peace that exists where we call home. Here it is possible to connect with yourself and others. Should you make a decision to make Blanding your retirement home, know that strangers are welcome here!
