Blanding's 10th annual Fourth of July 5K Fun Run drew over 200 participants Saturday morning with 195 runners in the 5K plus 30 kids in the 1 mile kids' fun run. Precision Rehabilitation's fitness challenge was responsible for 42 individuals running in this year's event. Starting back in April, San Juan County residents were given the opportunity to keep track of their weekly training in preparation for the Independence Day 5K, turn in their fitness calendars on race morning, and then have their entry fee paid for by Precision Rehabilitation. Many of those participating in this challenge were first time runners. Clark's Market once again sponsored the event with grocery gift cards going to the top three overall male and female winners. The overall winners, both from Cedar City, were Ryan Neuman with a time of 17:23 and Beth Redd with a time of 22:56.
Race Director, Katie Hiatt, would like to thank sponsors Clark's Market and Precision Rehabilitation for making this year's race such a huge success with all proceeds from the race going to support the San Juan High School Cross-Country team. Local businesses who donated door prizes to the runners were: Taco Time, San Juan Pharmacy, Redd's True Value, The Flower Shop, Subway, Southway, CB's, artists Carol VanSteeter and Scott Mitchell, and the National Guard Armory. Each year these businesses show their generosity and support for the SJHS XC team. Congratulations to all the participants!
